Fourth-century bishop John Chrysostom frequently tells his congregants that virtue is easy, so they should just be virtuous. He means it, too. For Chrysostom, virtue is simply a matter of choice. We are free and able to make choices about our actions, and therefore we are responsible for our actions. Come explore how our freedom to choose makes us responsible and how we can think of virtue as simply a matter of choice in each moment. Together we will decide if this breaking down into smaller moments actually makes virtue easy and is a helpful way to think or if Chrysostom needed a reality check.
