Henri Nouwen demonstrates the practice of visio divina in his book The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming. Visio divina applies the steps of lectio divina to images. Come encounter the parables of Jesus of Nazareth from a different perspective.

Together, we will look at artistic depictions of certain parables of Jesus. We will spend time simply looking at and experiencing each image. We will share initial noticings and impressions. Free time will be given to ponder more deeply.

Creativity in prayer and contemplation is encouraged! Perhaps you will be inspired to create your own image or rewrite the parable as you see it anew.

Optional preparation = Read Henri Nouwen’s book The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming

The Monastery of St. Gertrude embraces the mysteries of spiritual experience and artistic expression. We provide silence, time and space for discernment, humility and focus. We wish to help the creativity in all to flourish and deepen. Beauty comes not only from head and hand but also from heart and soul.
